Who we are
Merchants Guild (merchantsguild.org) is a marketplace being set up for monasteries, parishes and Catholic makers. We are responsible for the information described here. You can contact us about anything on this page at merchantsguilds@gmail.com.
What we collect
If you join the waitlist
Your email address, and your first name if you give it. We use these only to tell you when the shop opens and to send occasional news about Merchants Guild.
If you apply to sell
What you tell us on the “Sell with us” form: the name of your community or business, your name and role, email, phone number if you give it, town and country, what you make, and your answers to the other questions. We use this to reply to you, to decide together whether Merchants Guild is a good fit, and to set up your shop.
If you email us
Your email address and whatever you choose to write, so that we can reply.
When you visit the site
We don’t use cookies, advertising trackers or analytics. Like every website, our hosting provider records basic technical details, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the site running and secure.
Why we’re allowed to use it
- Waitlist: your consent, given when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Seller applications: your consent, given by ticking the box on the form, and because it’s needed to talk with you about selling on Merchants Guild.
- Emails and site security: our legitimate interest in replying to messages and keeping the website working safely.
Who else handles it
We never sell your information or share it with advertisers. We use a few trusted services to run the website, and they only handle your information on our behalf:
- Supabase stores waitlist sign-ups and seller applications in a secure database in Europe.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Google provides our email (Gmail) and the fonts used on the site. Loading the fonts means your browser contacts Google’s servers.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your information leaves the UK, they protect it with the safeguards UK law requires, such as approved data-transfer agreements.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist: until you ask to be removed, or until we stop running the waitlist.
- Seller applications: if we go ahead together, for as long as you sell with us. If we don’t, we delete your application within 12 months.
- Emails: for as long as we need them to deal with what you wrote to us about.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- show you the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your information;
- stop or limit how we use it;
- give you a copy to take elsewhere.
Just email merchantsguilds@gmail.com. It’s free, and we’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Merchants Guild is meant for adults. Please don’t join the waitlist or apply to sell if you’re under 16.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is important, we’ll email the people it affects.
